NORTHWEST DC
Location reigns supreme in the real estate realm, and this rings true for this Georgetown residence nestled on a serene, tree-lined street just moments from the heart of Capitol Hill. Purchased as a 1950s Georgian Colonial, the clients entrusted the Monarch Dream Team with a bold mission: transform it into a Napa Valley-inspired abode. Converting a mid-century D.C. Colonial into a 2019 California ranch was no small feat, but the team embraced the challenge, pushing and prodding the existing blueprint by 50% to craft the stunning home it is today.
With a bustling household of four young children and a penchant for entertaining, the design focus had to be multifaceted. The home's bones underwent a dramatic overhaul, with small windows replaced by expansive Nana Doors, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor spaces. Traditional Colonial railings gave way to sleek steel and stone, while dated oak floors were swapped for elegant limestone.
The color palette deliberately transitions from warm to cool greys, eschewing ornate moldings for clean, minimalist lines. Walls serve as pristine canvases for striking artwork, while the interplay of light against white and grey surfaces creates a dynamic visual experience throughout the day. Furnishings exude subtlety and texture, with natural fibers like jute, Alpaca, and silk adding to the tactile richness. Wood stains range from pristine white to deep grey, offering a rustic counterpoint to the softness of the fabrics.
Georgetown now boasts a quintessential California Napa Valley retreat in place of its former 1950s Georgian Colonial—a testament to the Monarch Dream Team's prowess in achieving their mission. Mission accomplished indeed.
